15.8. Replacement of brake shoes of the hand brake on back disk brakes

GENERAL INFORMATION

With back brake disks the hand brake works at models irrespective of hydraulic brake system. Brake shoes of drum-type type are thus used, and as a brake drum the internal part of a brake disk is used.

Check

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. For check of a condition of blocks of the hand brake on models with SOHC engines it is necessary to remove a nave / a brake disk.
2. For check of a condition of brake shoes of the hand brake on models with DOHC engines it is necessary to remove a brake disk.
3. After nave removal / a brake disk or a brake disk check a condition of overlays of brake shoes. Even if the limit of wear were reached by only one block, replace all blocks of the hand brake in a set.

MODELS WITH THE SOHC ENGINE

Removal

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Being careful and security measures, clear all traces of a brake dust from a brake drum, a brake board and blocks.
2. Disconnect a cable of the hand brake and a returnable spring from a control lever of the hand brake on a brake board. If necessary a regulator weaken a cable of the hand brake.
3. Using flat-nose pliers, remove a plate of a spring of fixing of a brake shoe, pressing a plate and turning it on 90 °°. Remove a spring and take a clamp pin.
4. Remove assembled brake shoes, a regulator, a control lever of the hand brake and returnable springs.
5. Note an arrangement and orientation of all elements of the hand brake, then disconnect from brake shoes the top and bottom returnable springs and remove a control lever of the hand brake and a regulator.

Installation

Installation of the bottom returnable spring on brake shoes on models with the SOHC engine

The correct arrangement of elements of the hand brake on models with the SOHC engine

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Apply a thin film high-temperature greasing on a regulator carving, then reduce length of a regulator to the minimum possible. Also apply a thin film high-temperature greasing on places of contact of brake shoes with a brake board.
2. Establish a forward brake shoe and fix a spring and a plate of a spring.
3. Establish a control lever of the hand brake.
4. Establish a back brake shoe and fix a spring and a plate of a spring.
5. Establish on brake shoes the top returnable spring.
6. Establish a regulator between the bottom ends of brake shoes, then establish on blocks the bottom returnable spring (see fig. Installation of the bottom returnable spring on brake shoes on models with the SOHC engine, the Correct arrangement of elements of the hand brake on models with the SOHC engine).
7. Establish a cable of the hand brake on the lever and then establish a returnable spring.
8. Establish a nave / a brake disk and adjust люфт the bearing.
9. Similarly replace blocks of the hand brake on the second wheel.
10. Check adjustment of a cable of the hand brake.
11. Establish wheels and lower the car. Tighten bolts of fastening of a wheel the demanded moment.

MODELS WITH THE DOHC ENGINE

3. Remove together with springs clamps of brake shoes for what turn them a screw-driver. Note an arrangement of all details of the hand brake. Disconnect from brake shoes the top and bottom returnable springs and remove the lever of the hand brake and a regulator.

Installation

Arrangement of a regulator and the top returnable spring on brake shoes of the hand brake on models with DOHC engines

5. Establish the bottom returnable spring.
6. Establish a regulator between the top ends of brake shoes and the top returnable spring (see fig. An arrangement of a regulator and the top returnable spring on brake shoes of the hand brake on models with DOHC engines).
7. Establish a cable of the hand brake and a returnable spring on a control lever of the hand brake.
8. Establish a brake disk.
9. Similarly replace blocks of the hand brake on the second wheel.
10. Check adjustment of a cable of the hand brake.
11. Establish wheels and lower the car. Tighten bolts of fastening of a wheel the demanded moment.
